UEFA asks for stadium retractable roof to be closed during Champions League final due to ISIS threatSenior level UEFA officials are requesting that Principality Stadium’s retractable roof be closed during the Champions League final due to the concerns that ISIS terrorists may try to carry out a major terror attack using a drone.
Senior-level Union of European Football Associations officials are concerned that ISIS terrorists are planning to carry out a major terror attack using a drone during the Champions League final, which will take place on June 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
According to the British newspaper The Sun, UEFA officials are currently holding secret talks with Welsh authorities about the possibility of closing the retractable roof of the stadium, citing that ISIS terrorists may be planning to fly a drone over the open stadium and disperse a toxic substance.
The UEFA officials’ request is considered unusual because the roof has only been closed in the past due to weather conditions. The officials hope that by closing the roof, they will be able to thwart any possible ISIS intentions to harm the spectators. In addition, about 15,000 police officers will be securing the stadium during the game.
UEFA’s request comes after a series of explosions occurred on Borussia Dortmund’s bus in Germany on Tuesday. At the moment, German police are searching for suspects in the attack, which was apparently related to radical Islam.
Yesterday, an indictment was filed against a terror suspect in Germany who has links to ISIS. However, the indictment stated that there is no evidence linking him to Tuesday’s blasts.
