UN: $900 million needed to provide humanitarian aid to Somalia

The UN stated that it needs another $900 million in order to provide the necessary humanitarian aid to Somalia. According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, over six million people in the country need humanitarian assistance.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced on Thursday that the international organization needs an additional $900 million in order to provide humanitarian aid to Somalia. Guterres made the announcement in Britain at an international summit on the East African country.

Reuters reported that Guterres said during his opening remarks at the summit: “This morning, we presented the revised humanitarian response plan seeking an additional $900 million to the end the year.” The conference was hosted by British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Guterres added that over six million people in Somalia need humanitarian aid and 275,000 children could die of hunger.
