Colombians vote against peace deal; FARC wants continued ceasefire
Putin suspends nuclear agreement; Disappointed US respondsThe White House expressed its disappointment after the Russian President signed a decree suspending Russia’s nuclear proliferation prevention deal with the US. As a result, the US announced that it will be pulling out of negotiations towards a ceasefire in Syria.
This evening (Monday), the White House responded with disappointment to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to suspend the agreement that was signed signed with the US. As reported by JOL (JerusalemOnline) earlier today, the agreement was part of a series of deals between the two countries aimed at decreasing nuclear proliferation.
“The decision by the Russians to unilaterally withdraw from this commitment is disappointing,” White House Spokesman Josh Earnest said. “This agreement pledged the disposal of thousands of nuclear weapons worth of plutonium.”
The US and Russia are also exhibiting tensions regarding the current situation in Syria. After the US Secretary of State and the Russian Foreign Minister arrived at an agreement concerning a ceasefire in Syria, the entire deal backfired as a result of serious breaches and violence. The two countries blamed each other for the collapse of the ceasefire.
As a result of Russia’s decision, the US has decided to suspend negotiations with Moscow, which were being held in an attempt to bring an end to Syria’s bloody civil war. The US accused Russia of failing to meet its obligations that were aimed at upholding the ceasefire agreement that was signed just last month.
