US hosts dinner for countries that didn’t vote for UN resolution against Jerusalem declarationUS Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley hosted a special dinner for the representatives of 64 countries who backed Washington by either voting against or abstaining from voting on a UN General Assembly resolution that condemned the American recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. “Thank you to the 64,” Haley said during the event.
On Wednesday evening, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley hosted a reception for the representatives of 64 countries who either voted against or abstained from voting on a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
The event was held at the US Mission to the UN building across the street from the UN headquarters in New York. Haley and the US Mission to the UN shared pictures from the gathering on Twitter. “It’s easy for friends to be with you in the good times, but it’s the friends who are with you during the challenging times that will never be forgotten,” Haley said at the reception. “Thank you to the 64.”
Trump addressed the guests in a short pre-taped video that was played during the reception. “I want to thank all of the nations represented here tonight for standing with the United States during the recent United Nations General Assembly vote on the status of Jerusalem,” Trump stated in the video. “Rest assured that your actions on Thursday, December 21, will go down as a very important date [and] were noted and greatly appreciated.”

“The United States remains committed to achieving lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians. There's no reason that peace should not be entered into,” he added. “We will continue to work with the partners like you to ensure a peaceful and prosperous future for the region, for the people, for the world. Thank you, God bless you, and have a great new year.”
