According to Fox News, the US Air Force intercepted 4 Russian aircraft- Tupolev 95 bombers and Su-35 fighter jets- early Thursday morning. Though no official confirmation has been received, it appears that the planes were unarmed and remained within international airspace. US officials told Fox News that the US considers this an incident of "Russian provocation."
According to reports, the US Air Force immediately dispatched F-22 stealth fighter jets to divert and escort the Russian planes when they reached a distance of 80 kilometers from the coast of the state of Alaska.
The Tupolev 95 is a strategic Cold War fighter jet equipped with four turbo-prop engines that allow it to fly at very high speeds compared to similar aircraft. The plane was developed by the Soviets in response to the American B-52 bomber. In 1961, the Tupolev 95 dropped the "Tsar-bomb" - the largest and strongest atom bomb ever tested.
