The exceptionally cold weather across the Northeastern United States caused major power outages and floods on Thursday, with forecasters saying the worst is still ahead.
A massive winter storm, known as "a bomb cyclone," is expected to hit the region later this week, causing temperatures to plunge to -35°F in some areas. In New York, The National Weather Service predicts 5-8 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 50 mph.
By the end of the week, according to forecasters, temperatures in some parts of the Northeast will be lower than on Mars.
Thousands of flights were cancelled and many schools and businesses were closed down, CBS has reported.
