The U.S. Justice Department announced last night (Tuesday) that it will request that Jordan extradites terrorist Ahlam Tamimi, who aided the suicide bomber who blew himself up at the Sbarro restaurant in 2001 in Jerusalem. The terror attack claimed the lives of 15 people, two of whom were American citizens. Over 130 people were injured.
Tamimi, who is a Jordanian, drove the suicide bomber to the restaurant and helped gather information prior to the attack. She was sentenced to 16 consecutive life sentences for her part in the attack but she was released after 12 years as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange. The U.S. also recognizes Tamimi as a terrorist and has added her name to the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists list.

It appears that the official request has not yet been submitted to Amman but official sources in the U.S. clarified that the government is working to get her extradited in order to prosecute her.
Tamimi has never expressed remorse for her actions. Immediately after she was released in 2011, she was interviewed by an Egyptian news outlet and congratulated the other prisoners who were released as part of the deal. She added: “I hope that the world will continue to work in order to release the rest of the brothers who we left behind in the prison.” When she arrived in Jordan, she stated: “I would do it again.”
The deadly terror attack occurred on August 9, 2001. It is considered one of the deadliest attacks of the Second Intifada. Seven of the 15 Israelis who were murdered were children.
