3 casualties due to raging forest fire in TennesseeThe Great Smoky Mountains resort town of Gatlinburg turned into hell on earth when a huge forest fire spread from the forested mountain peaks into the city. 14,000 people were evacuated and hundreds of buildings have been destroyed. Fire officials admitted they are still trying to reach all points of origin.
Three people were killed last night (Tuesday) due to a raging forest fire in Sevier County, Tennessee. Officials confirmed that they have prepared for the possibility of spot fires within the next 24 hours.
Gatlinburg Fire Chief Greg Miller said that the 3 people were killed in different locations due to the fire that has been raging since Monday. "We pray we don't experience any more fatalities but there are still areas that we're trying to get to because of down trees and down power lines," Miller said.
The fire has already destroyed hundreds of buildings in the Great Smoky Mountains resort city Gatlinburg and its surroundings. "It's a devastating time for us, and for Gatlinburg," said Mayor of Gatlinburg Mike Werner. He added: "We're strong and we're resilient […] we're going to make it."
