Watch: US and South Korean Air Forces in joint exercise
Today (Thursday), the US and South Korean Air Forces carried out a joint exercise above the Korean Peninsula. In a show of strength, heavy bomber planes and advanced fighter jets bombed practice targets.
Several days after North Korea launched a ballistic missile test over Japan, the aircraft that took part in the exercise included two B-1B heavy bomber planes capable of carrying nuclear weapons, F-15 fighter jets and for the first time, the region saw F-35 fighter jets in action.
North Korea claimed that the missile was a response to the US-South Korea joint exercise and threatened to launch another missile towards Guam. “North Korea’s actions are a threat to our allies, partners and homeland,” stated commander of the Pacific Air Forces General Terrence O’Shaughnessy. “Their destabilizing actions will be met accordingly.”
