The troubles of Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein continue to worsen as his wife, fashion designer and actress Georgina Chapman, announced on Wednesday that she is leaving him in light of the mounting sexual harassment claims against him. Her decision comes just days after Weinstein declared that his wife "stands 100 percent behind me" and that she would help him "become a better human."

"My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions," Chapman said in a statement to People magazine. “I have chosen to leave my husband. Caring for my young children is my first priority and I ask the media for privacy at this time."

41-year-old Chapman is the founder and partner of the Marchesa fashion brand and has two children with Weinstein, aged 7 and 4. Marchesa dresses have been worn by many stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Sienna Miller, as well as former US First Lady Michelle Obama who along with her husband, personally condemned reports of Weinstein's sexual harassment and said they are "disgusted by recent reports.”

After an initial report by the New Yorker, actresses Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow both said they had also been sexually harassed by Weinstein, in a New York Times exposé which reported three decades of harassment of actresses and workers, including hush money. Following the publication, Weinstein, considered one of the most powerful people in Hollywood, was fired from his production powerhouse, The Weinstein Company.

In a statement released by the company, its board of directors including Weinstein’s brother Robert, who all together control 42 percent of the company, announced Weinstein’s dismissal “in light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days.”

This is a serious blow to Weinstein, who is considered one of the pioneers of contemporary American cinema and known for promoting liberal values throughout the years.
