Western nations are joining the United Stated in weighing the possibility of an attack on Syria, following the reported deadly chemical attack by President Bashar al Assad’s regime.UK Prime Minister Theresa May has called for a special cabinet meeting to discuss London’s response to what she called a “barbaric” attack by Syrian forces.
Amid the global engagement against him, Assad said in a statement on Thursday that any action by Western nations would only contribute to further destabilization in the region. In addition, Assad claimed that the West wishes to attack Syria “based on lies they have fabricated,” referring to the accusations of chemical weapon use.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump appeared to go back on his previous bellicose threats against the war-torn country and the Russian-backed regime. “Never said when an attack on Syria would take place,” Trump clarified on Twitter. “Could be very soon or not so soon at all! In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our ‘Thank you America?’”

In France, President Emmanuel Macron told reporters on Thursday that he has evidence that chemical weapons were indeed used on Syria’s Douma. “We have the proof that chemical weapons, at least chlorine gas, were used by Bashar al-Assad’s regime,” the French president said.
As previously reported by JOL, The Syrian regime has raised its flag in the last rebel-held enclave of eastern Ghouta and has established full control of besieged Douma, according to Russian news agencies. In addition, Russian military police have reportedly been deployed in Douma following the regime’s takeover. “They are the guarantors of law and order in the town,” the Russian Defense Ministry was quoted as saying.
