World Leaders on Facebook: Indian PM most followed leader, Trump second

According to a study conducted by Burson-Marsteller in January 2016, which analyzed the activity of world leaders on Facebook, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most followed leader in the world with US President Donald Trump in second.

According to a study conducted by Burson-Marsteller in January 2016, which analyzed the activity of world leaders on Facebook, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the most followed leader in the world with US President Donald Trump in second. 

The study discovered that 87 heads of state, 82 prime ministers and 51 foreign ministers maintain personal pages on Facebook. Barack Obama was the first to create such a page in late 2007 before entering office. Only 24 countries have not created a Facebook page including China and Switzerland.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi leads the Middle East ranking of the most liked leaders with close to 6 million likes. Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri leads the ranking of the most engaged world leaders in 2015, followed by the Cambodian Prime Minister and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
