The woman fired at a book that her boyfriend was holding against his chest but the bullet went completely through the cover and pages, which led to his death.
19-year-old Monalisa Perez from Minnesota fatally shot her boyfriend while the two filmed a video they planned to upload to YouTube, hoping that it would go viral.
According to the indictment that was filed against her, Pedro Ruiz III was holding a book against his chest, which was supposed to stop the bullet that Perez shot at him from close range. However, the book failed to stop the bullet.

Paramedics arrived at the home where the video was filmed and tried to revive Ruiz. However, they had no choice but to pronounce him dead. The local police department claims that it has the footage documenting the fatal shooting.
The couple regularly uploaded videos to their YouTube page in an attempt to gain more followers. Hours before the shooting, Perez wrote on Twitter: “Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever. HIS idea not MINE.”
“He had told me about that idea,” Ruiz’s aunt told reports. “I said, 'Don’t do it. Don’t do it. Why are you going to use a gun? Why?” She added that her nephew responded: “‘Because we want more viewers. We want to get famous.’”
At the moment, Perez, who is seven months pregnant, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and is expected to receive a prison sentence.
