Today (Tuesday), Seeking Alpha reported that Canadian telecommunications company BlackBerry Limited is examining the possibility to buy Allot Communications. The Israeli high-tech company is a provider of IP service optimization solutions for service providers. Allot Communications’ market cap on NASDAQ and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) is 171 million dollars.

According to the report, Allot Communications is a possible candidate for several reasons. Firstly, it is a profitable company and will contribute to the decreasing revenues of the Canadian giant. In addition, it specializes in data security and may help BlackBerry expand its subscriber base.

Only a few days ago, it was reported that the Canadian company will stop producing the smartphone, which it invented, in order to focus on its more profitable aspects. The company’s earnings decreased by 28% in comparison to the same quarter last year and many analysts are debating whether BlackBerry can become profitable again. Consequently, the company halted all its smartphone development and will focus on software and data security solutions.
