Blood and plasma units for young Israeli tourist arrive in Peru

After she was admitted to the hospital last week in Peru, Zohar Katz started to receive the blood and plasma units that were flown to the country from Israel just for her. Magen David Adom hopes that she will be able to return to Israel for continued treatment in the beginning of next week.

The 100 blood and plasma units intended for Zohar Katz landed in Lima, Peru, this morning (Friday). The young Israeli tourist was admitted to the San Borja Medical Center last week after she contracted a serious blood infection. The Migdal insurance company stated that it hopes to fly Katz back to Israel within the next few days.

Magen David Adom stated that due to the fact that the blood type Katz needs is rare in Peru, the shipment from Israel will help the hospital staff treat her. “We are happy that Zohar continues to get better and we are already getting ready for the operation to take her back to Israel for continued treatment in the beginning of next week,” said Professor Eilat Shinar, the manager of the Magen David Adom blood services.

“After a journey of 24 hours, I arrived at the hospital in Lima with the plasma units that were donated by many Israelis,” said Magen David Adom paramedic Yonat Daskal.
