Russia: Armed suspect shot security guard at synagogue in Moscow

According to Russian news agencies, an armed suspect attempted to break into a synagogue in central Moscow. A security guard at the scene was injured as a result of the shooting and evacuated to a hospital in critical condition. The suspect, who was armed with a fuel tank in addition to a gun, threatened to light the place on fire but was stopped before entering the building.

An armed suspect attempted to break into a synagogue tonight (Saturday) in Moscow and shot a security guard who was standing at the entrance.

Initial reports state that the suspect was armed with a fuel tank and screaming that he would burn the place down. The security guard was evacuated to a hospital in critical condition. Police managed to disarm the shooter before he entered the synagogue.

In the synagogue at the time of attack around 150 people were praying the evening prayer. The attacker came to the synagogue and demanded to meet with the Cheif Rabbi of Moscow Pinchas Goldschmidt. The security guards took him away and when they called the police he shot and injured one of the guards.
