Cape Canaveral: Explosion on launch pad; Israeli satellite destroyed

Two days before the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket was supposed to take the Israeli Amos-6 communication satellite into space from Cape Canaveral, a large explosion occurred on the launch pad. The Israeli satellite was destroyed in the explosion.

Today (Thursday), an explosion occurred on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral in Florida during a test in preparation for the upcoming launch. According to the initial reports, it appears that the engine of a SpaceX Falcon 9 exploded.

The rocket was supposed to be sent into space on Saturday with the Israeli Amos-6 communication satellite. At the moment, it is unclear if anyone was injured in the explosion. However, the Israeli satellite was destroyed. 

According to the reports coming from the US, several smaller explosions followed the main explosion. On Saturday, the rocket was supposed to send the first Facebook satellite along with the Israeli satellite into space.
