In the conversation with Israeli journalist Yonit Levi that will be broadcast on Channel 2's main newscast tonight, Clinton speaks about ISIS. Watch part of the interview.
Just two months before the dramatic US elections, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton gave an exclusive interview to Israel’s Channel 2 News, making it her first interview with the Israeli media during her presidential campaign. During the conversation held with Yonit Levi in New York, Clinton emphasized that she will “work as quickly as possible” against the ISIS terror organization and she blamed Trump’s campaign for “playing into the jihadists hands.”
When asked about the war against ISIS and what she thought about the phrase “war against radical Islam” that Obama has refrained from utilizing, she replied: “We have made a judgement based on a lot of research. We have come to understand that bringing Islam into the definition of our enemy actually serves the purpose of the radical jihadists and there is a lot of evidence of that.”
Clinton also added that the former US Counterterrorism Center Director Matt Olsen published an article in which he makes this very point. He stated that ISIS spokesmen are rooting for Donald Trump’s victory because “Trump has made Islam and Muslims part of his campaign."
“Basically, Matt Olsen argues that the jihadists see this as a great gift," Clinton continued. "They are saying, ‘Oh please, Allah, make Trump president of America.' So, I’m not interested in giving aid and comfort to their evil ambitions. I want to defeat them! I want to end their reign of terror.”
But, how does Clinton aim to wipe ISIS off the map? According to her, the US under her leadership is going to intensify what has already been happening including the aerial campaign: “We will give more support on the ground to the Arab and Kurdish fighters. I still believe that we need leverage to deal with the Russians, the Iranians and the Syrians whether it is a no-fly zone or some other tool.”
