Another Netanyahu-Trump meeting in the works
Denmark denies Israeli claims that it used to fund pro-BDS groupsThree weeks after Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan announced that Denmark had agreed to stop funding Palestinian NGOs that promote the boycott of Israel, the Danish Foreign Ministry says it never supported such groups, accusing Erdan of using them for political gain.
Denmark's Foreign Ministry has denounced the Israeli government's statement from three weeks ago that Denmark had vowed to cut funding to Palestinian NGOs that promote the BDS movement, saying it never supported such NGOs to begin with.
The Danish statement added that Israel's Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan, who first announced Denmark's alleged policy shift, was "taking advantage of us for public relations purposes."
Erdan's announcement from late December that Denmark had decided to stop funding pro-BDS groups has become the basis for accusations by the Danish opposition, which has criticized the government for caving to pressure from Jerusalem.
An Israeli diplomat on Thursday criticized Erdan, saying it is often best to keep quiet on such sensitive issues rather than celebrate them publicly.
