Former senior-level Pentagon official calls for Trump to stop controversial submarine dealDov Zakheim, a former senior-level Pentagon official, published an article in which he called for US President-elect Donald Trump to stop the submarine deal between Israel and ThyssenKrupp.
As the political storm in Israel regarding the submarine deal continues, former top Pentagon official Dov Zakheim called on US President-elect Donald Trump to stop the controversial agreement between Israel and a German company. In an article written by Zakheim that appeared in the National Interest, he commented on the defense aid package that was granted to Israel by the US and said that support for Israel does not mean giving the country a “blank check.”
Zakheim called for Trump to put a stop to the deal until the Pentagon has thoroughly reviewed it. Zakheim wrote that according to the IDF Chief of Staff and Commander of the Israeli Navy, the Israeli military does not need the three additional submarines for at least another decade. In addition, he said that the two were never informed about the deal between Israel and the German company when it was pending.
Earlier today, JOL reported that the German conglomerate corporation ThyssenKrupp decided to launch an internal probe due to the conflict of interest allegations against David Shimron, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s personal lawyer who represented the company in the controversial submarine deal.
