Pope calls for ‘reconciliation and peace’ in Jerusalem
Father of Jordanian shot by Israeli: “We didn’t know they were Jews”The father of Mohammed Zakaria al-Jawawdeh, who was shot dead by an Israeli security guard in Amman after he apparently stabbed two people, is claiming that his son did not know that the security guard and his friend were Jewish. “If we would have known this, we wouldn’t have let them enter the store,” he added.
As the incident at the apartment of an Israeli security guard in Amman is being investigated, the father of the 17-year-old who was involved in the incident is sharing his version of the story. “We didn’t know they were Jews,” said the father of Mohammed Zakaria al-Jawawdeh, who was shot by the Israeli security guard. “If we would have known this, we wouldn’t have let them enter the store.”
“He’s a young student,” the father continued, referring to his son. “We are in the middle of the summer vacation. The boy went with his friends to get money for work they did in a bedroom. There was a dispute between them and the man who was there. We didn’t know that they were armed.”
“Our son argued with this man and we don’t know if he slapped him or punched him,” the father told Jordanian media outlets. “But how do you draw your weapon and in cold blood shoot him. What is he? A bug? This is all of the truth, this is what happened and I hope our voice will reach the whole world.”
The Jordanian media outlets are reporting a different version of events than what the Israeli media outlets are presenting. According to the former, al-Jawawdeh and a friend were working as carpenters and went to the apartment, which was at the time occupied by the Jordanian apartment owner, the security guard and the security guard’s assistant, in order to set up a bedroom. The apartment is located in a building next to the Israeli embassy.
The Jordanian reports claim that a dispute broke out between the workers and the Jordanian apartment owner, who is a doctor. Al-Jawawdeh stabbed the apartment owner and the security guard’s assistant. At that moment, the security guard opened fire and shot the young man. Al-Jawawdeh’s friend was arrested. The reports claim that the apartment owner died of the stab wounds, not the Israeli’s gunshots.
