France says in statement it’s cooperating with Israel in arms smuggling investigationA statement released by the French Embassy in Israel said that it is taking the accusations that a French consulate worker was involved in a Palestinian arms smuggling network very seriously. The embassy added that it is working with the Israeli authorities.
The French Embassy in Israel responded Monday evening to the reports about the arrest of a French consulate worker who allegedly smuggled arms into the West Bank from Gaza. In a statement, the embassy said that it is taking the accusations very seriously.
“Given that this is a case that is being heard in an Israeli court, we are not commenting on it and we are making sure that the rights of the French citizen are being respected,” the statement read. “We are in constant contact with the French citizen’s family and the Israeli authorities.”
Yesterday, JOL reported that it was cleared for publication that a joint Shin Bet and Israel Police operation revealed an arms smuggling network operated by Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem. Over the past few months, dozens of weapons were smuggled out of Gaza and into the West Bank in a diplomatic vehicle driven by Roman Frank, a French citizen and consulate worker.
