Gal Gadot backs out of awarding director Bret Ratner at JNF honorary dinnerIsraeli Hollywood star Gal Gadot has cancelled her engagement at the Jewish National Fund awards dinner this coming Sunday in which she was due to present director Bret Ratner with the Tree of Life Award. Although Gadot is officially on a promotional tour in China for her upcoming movie, Justice League, many speculate the cancellation may be due to Ratner's previous sexual misconduct.
Israeli actress and Hollywood star Gal Gadot has canceled her participation in a dinner hosted by the Jewish National Fund (JNF) honoring director and producer Bret Ratner, who had been accused of sexual misconduct by actress Olivia Munn.
Gadot was due to present Ratner with JNF’s Tree of Life award on Sunday to Ratner. Both Ratner and Gadot’s representatives refused to comment on the cancellation. However, according to sources close to Gadot, the official reason for her cancellation is her promotional tour in China for her new Justice League film.
Hollywood’s recent sexual harassment controversy has placed many prominent figures under great scrutiny. Munn wrote in her memoir of an incident in which she claims a director masturbated in front of her on a movie set. Although Ratner denied doing such a thing, he confirmed he was, in fact, the director Munn was referring to and also apologized for falsely claiming the two had sex. Ratner is also considered a close friend of director James Toback, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by over 300 women in the past few years.
In an Instagram post, Gadot referred to the Harvey Weinstein scandal as well as the Hollywood actresses who publicly shared their experiences of sexual harassment. “Bullying and sexual harassment is unacceptable!” Gadot wrote. “I stand by all the courageous women confronting their fears and speaking out. Together we stand. We are all united in this time of change.”
