German government investigates Kuwait Airways for refusing to fly Israeli passengers

The German Federal Transport and Digital Infrastructure Ministry is opening an investigation into Kuwait Airways for denying to fly Israeli passengers, which violates international aviation law. The probe was launched following a lawsuit filed by an Israeli citizen who was denied the right to purchase a ticket with the airline last summer due to his nationality.

The German government is beginning an investigation into Kuwait Airways’ policy of refusing to fly Israeli passengers, which Berlin asserts violates international aviation law. German Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt launched the probe in line with an ongoing lawsuit within the Frankfurt District Court that was filed by an Israeli citizen who requested to fly from Frankfurt to Thailand last summer via Kuwait but the airline refused to sell him a ticket due to his nationality.

“We commend the Ministry for launching an investigation into Kuwait Airways’ discriminatory practices,” stated Lawfare Project Executive Director Brooke Goldstein. The Lawfare Project is a New York City-based pro-Israel non-profit legal group assisting the Israeli plaintiffs banned from flying with Kuwait Airways. “Our team will continue to pursue legal action until the German government makes clear that Kuwait Airways must either comply with the law or cease doing business in their country.”

According to a press release published by the Lawfare Project, Israeli-Arab social media star Nas Daily posted a video to Facebook in October after being banned from boarding a Kuwait Airways flight from New York to India simply due to his Israeli nationality.

“This case makes clear that there can be no room for discrimination in Germany,” Lawfare Project German council Nathan Gelbart said. “Our country’s laws and common values should call German policymakers to act immediately in ending Kuwait Airways’ systematic violations of civil rights in our country.”
