A spokesperson for the leader of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps threatened on Thursday that Iran is "capable of destroying Israel," urging Israel not to give it a reason to do so.

The official, who spoke just days after an air strike in Syria attributed to the Israeli Air Force, advised Israel "to avoid taking stupid steps" if it wants to exist. He was quoted on the Iranian Fars News Agency.

Earlier on Thursday, Russia's Foreign Ministry accused Israel of "escalating the instability in Syria" with its alleged strike. It also denounced the latest statements made by US President Donald Trump regarding a possible US strike in Syria, calling them "militarist."

Speaking at a ceremony for Holocaust Remembrance Day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Iranian people and said, "When Iran's current regime is no more, the two ancient peoples will be able to coexist once again."
