Israel’s Representative to UN elected as Vice President of General Assembly
Nikki Haley to meet with Israeli, Palestinian leaders during upcoming tripNext week, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley will visit Israel and meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Before landing in the country, Haley will deliver a historic speech at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, becoming the first US ambassador to the UN to address the forum.
The US Mission to the UN announced on Tuesday that Nikki Haley will travel to Switzerland and Israel next week. Haley will speak in front of the UN Human Rights Council on June 6, becoming the first US ambassador to the UN to address the forum in Geneva.
After speaking at the UN Human Rights Council, Haley will “laying out the United States’ position on future involvement with the Human Rights Council” during a speech at the Graduate Institute Geneva. “Her remarks will address the benefits and the failings of the Council with respect to the vital mission of defending millions of people against the world’s worst cases of human rights abuse,” the press release read.
Haley will then spend two days in Israel, where she will meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. She will also observe the UN operations in the region.
Haley has slammed the UN in the past for being biased against Israel. In April, Haley said during a UN Security Council discussion: “These monthly meetings routinely turn into Israel-bashing sessions. That’s the way the Security Council has operated for years. It’s a formula that is absurdly biased against one country.”
