Israel is calling upon the UN Security Council to condemn Iran's activities after an Iranian drone entered the Israeli airspace on Saturday morning and was downed by the Israeli Air Force.

In a fierce letter to Security Council member states, Israeli UN Ambassador Danny Danon said, "This is not the first time we have warned you against Iran's dangerous actions that undermine the security situation in the region."

"This incident proves that every one of these warnings proved true," Danon added, referring to the operation of the Iranian drone. "Israel will defend its citizens and will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty."

"Security Council members must not stand idly by while Iran is instigating dangerous escalations and violating Security Council resolutions," Danon said, calling on the Council to "condemn this dangerous act and to put an immediate end to Iranian provocations."
