Israeli injured in Nepal jeep accident pronounced dead

Vered Aviyashar, one of the nine Israeli backpackers wounded in a jeep accident in a mountain range in Nepal, was pronounced dead Monday morning. The other eight backpackers were evacuated to the hospital with minor injuries.

Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the death of one of the injured Israelis involved in the jeep accident in Nepal: Vered Aviyashar, 26. The ministry is now working on transferring her remains back to Israel.

The wounded backpackers were evacuated to a hospital in Kathmandu after sustaining minor injuries and are expected to receive a visit from the Israeli ambassador. They were on their way to the Annapurna mountain range when the accident occurred.

Aviyashar's family is mourning the death of a “smart and brilliant” young woman who “loves nature and traveling, loves people and loves life and enjoys it." Aviyashar was born in Ein HaNetziv and was the third of seven siblings. She had just finished her bachelor’s degree in Jerusalem before traveling to Nepal. A helicopter was sent to rescue the group, but Aviyashar, who suffered a head injury, died from her wounds on the way to the hospital.
