The United States’ Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima arrived in Israel to participate in the training exercise Juniper Cobra 2018. "Israel and the United States are strong allies, and I’m looking forward to seeing everything our Navy-Marine Corps team will accomplish with them to increase our capabilities and build our relationship,” said USS Iwo Jima’s commanding officer Capt. Joseph O’Brien, as reported by the US Navy.

The Juniper Cobra exercise occurs once every two years and allows the IDF and its American ally to develop military coordination and to instruct one another. The exercise will continue until March 15 and will involve drills in urban warfare, ballistic missile defense and aerial cooperation.

The USS Iwo Jima’s home port is in Mayport, Florida. It holds 1,400 marines; 1,100 sailors; 25 aircraft; and 3 hovercrafts.
