On Monday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the audience at Christians United for Israel’s annual conference in Washington live via satellite from Budapest. Netanyahu told the Christian crowd that Israel has “no greater friends than Christian supporters of Israel.”

“America has no better friend than Israel and Israel has no better friend than America,” Netanyahu added. “And Israel has no better friend in America than you.” Netanyahu also spoke about Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. He reiterated that he believes that the embassies of foreign countries should be moved to Jerusalem: “I know I believe that. I know you believe that and I thank you for that support.”

“Now we engage, as we speak, in a great struggle,” Netanyahu continued. “It’s a struggle of civilizations. It’s the struggle of free societies against the forces of militant Islam. The militant Sunnis led by ISIS, the militant Shi’ites led by Iran. They want to conquer the Middle East, they want to destroy the State of Israel, and then they want to conquer the world.”

“People often make a mistake in conventional discussions when they used to say, or they used to say, that militant Islamists hate the West because of Israel,” Netanyahu explained. “It’s actually the other way around. They hate Israel because of the West. Because we represent a free society built on the foundation of Judeo-Christian heritage. This is the society they despise so much.”

US Vice President Mike Pence delivered the keynote address at the 12th annual summit. During his speech, he said stressed that the Trump administration supports Israel. “Like all of you, my passion for Israel springs from my Christian faith,” he said. “It’s really the greatest privilege of my life to serve as vice president to a president who cares so deeply for our most cherished ally.”

“I promise you that the day will come when President Donald Trump moves the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem,” he added. “It is not a question of if, it is only when.”
