Nicaragua's Foreign Ministry confirmed Wednesday morning that the official diplomatic ties between Jerusalem and Managua have been restored. The diplomatic relations between Israel and the Central American country were suspended by Nicaragua in 2010 in response to the Gaza flotilla raid.

In a joint statement, the countries noted that before 2010, they had a good relationship and worked together in various domains. Jerusalem and Managua also voiced their commitment to achieving world peace.

Hours before the news of the renewed diplomatic ties was confirmed, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that a country will announce that it has decided to re-establish relations with Jerusalem next week. However, he refrained from mentioning the country by name.
