Borge Brende, the Norwegian Foreign Minister, said in a statement Friday that Norway would rescind support for the Dalal Mughrabi Women's Youth Center. The decision came after the country learned that the Palestinian center was named after a terrorist responsible for killing dozens of Israelis.

Brende said that Norway had instructed the center to remove the country's name from the building immediately and return all funds allocated to its construction and promised that Norway would be more careful when vetting similar projects in the future. Norway apparently withdrew support for the center after the Norwegian branch of the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem brought the situation to their attention.

On March 11, 1978, Dalal Mugrabi took part in Israel's deadliest terror attack, known as the Coastal Road massacre, in which 37 Israelis, including 13 children, and one American were killed and 71 were wounded. Mughrabi was the only woman among the team of 11 terrorists who carried out the deadly attack. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Norway and the UN for severing ties with the organization.

The UN issued a statement on Sunday denouncing the center "once it learned the offensive name chosen for it" and condemned "the glorification of terrorism, or the perpetrators of heinous terrorist acts." Like Norway, the UN reported that it withdrew its support and demanded that the center remove the logo of UN Women from its building.

The Dalal Mughrabi Women's Youth Center, located in the West Bank town of Burka, was officially inaugurated last week. According to Ma'an, a Palestinian news agency, the purpose of the center is to "focus on the history of the struggle of Martyr Dalal Mughrabi and on presenting it to youth groups."

The Dalal Mughrabi Women's Youth Center is only one of a number of institutions and events that the Palestinian Authority has dedicated in Mughrabi's honor. The Palestinian Media Watch has reported that every year, the Palestinian Authority and Fatah honor the anniversary of Mughrabi's terror attack. Most recently, in 2016, the Palestinian Red Crescent hosted a Fatah event in Mughrabi's honor.
