Palestinians trying to advance anti-Israel resolution at UN Human Rights CouncilThe Palestinians are urging the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to issue a report that claims that the human rights of Palestinians are being violated by the Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Israel is trying to recruit member states to vote down the resolution that calls for the report.
The Palestinian Authority is trying to advance a new anti-Israel resolution at the United Nations Human Rights Council, according to a Hadashot news report.
The resolution calls on UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al-Hussein to release a report regarding the Israeli settlements’ impact on the human rights of Palestinians in the West Bank. The report is also to include recommendations on how to differentiate between Israeli territory and the West Bank territory that has been under Israel’s control since 1967.
Israel is using its diplomatic channels to gather support in the council to vote down the resolution. “Abu Mazen [PA leader Mahmoud Abbas] continues to respond to the peace initiatives with extreme unilateral steps that were designed to thwart all diplomatic progress,” Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon said. “This resolution is the product of the anti-Israeli enterprise in the United Nations Human Rights Council, a body that has made the damage of Israel its overall goal.”
