Israeli delegation to Paralympic Games includes several strong medal contenders

Several days after the Olympic Games in Rio came to an end, the Paralympic Games began last night with the opening ceremony at Maracanã Stadium. Israel sent 33 athletes, some of whom are strong contenders for a medal.

The Paralympic Games began last night (Wednesday) at the legendary Maracanã Stadium. The competitions will take place in the same Olympic park in Rio where the recent Olympic Games were held and the Paralympic athletes will be housed in the same Olympic Village.

The Israeli delegation is made up of 33 athletes some of whom are strong contenders for a medal including swimmer Inbal Pezaro and shooter Doron Shaziri. In addition, Israel is counting on rower Moran Samuel and table tennis athlete Caroline Tabib.

The delegation is headed by tennis player Shraga Weinberg, for whom Rio will be his fourth Paralympic Games. Weinberg already holds two medals. “With all my experience and all the years, I will certainly put these moments in my resume of excitement,” said Weinberg to Channel 2 Online. “I will certainly have butterflies in my stomach.”
