Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landed in Mexico Thursday, where he is scheduled to meet with President Enrique Peña Nieto as well as leaders of the Jewish community.

Netanyahu, who is the first Israeli Prime Minister to visit Latin America, visited Argentina and Colombia before arriving in Mexico. He will end his journey in New York, where he will attend the UN General Assembly.

In a January tweet, Netanyahu endorsed US President Donald Trump's idea of building a wall along the border with Mexico, sparking fury among Mexican Jews. He is expected to receive a warm welcome in Mexico nonetheless.

During his visit to Colombia, home to a large Jewish community, Netanyahu met with President Juan Manuel Santos, who praised Israel as a "leader in innovation."
