The US Embassy in Riyadh tweeted in Arabic regarding US President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia, the Vatican and Israel, but any mention of Israel was edited and removed from the attached video. Yesterday (Monday), New York Rep. Eliot Engel (Democrat) wrote to the US State Department requesting that it change the Twitter post.

“I am appalled that the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia disingenuously posted this incomplete and misleading video,” Engel wrote. “At a time when the United States should be encouraging the governments of the region – and their people – to promote tolerance, respect and mutual recognition, this video implies that the US accepts Saudi Arabia’s public rejectionist position toward Israel.”

A US State Department official noted that the US Embassy shared the video without noticing that it had been edited to remove the word “Israel.” “The embassy expresses its regret for this inadvertent mistake,” the official stated.
