US presidential candidates have been promising to move embassy to Jerusalem for decades
Senior level PA officials criticize Trump for Jerusalem remarksA day after Donald Trump announced that if elected, he would recognize an undivided Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city, senior level Palestinian officials are harshly criticizing the Republican presidential candidate.
Today (Monday), senior level PA officials condemned the declaration Trump made yesterday while speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During the meeting, Trump said that if elected, he would recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s undivided capital city and move the US Embassy to the city. The senior level PA officials attacked Trump by claiming that he is abandoning the two-state solution and accusing him of preferring Israel over the Palestinians.
“Trump’s declaration is a disgrace for international law and US foreign policy regarding the status of Jerusalem,” said Palestine Liberation Organization Security General Saeb Erekat. Erekat also commented on Trump’s campaign staff and said that the Republican presidential candidate’s advisor on Israel David Friedman “completely abandoned the two-state solution, international law and the UN resolutions.”
The Palestinian Foreign Affairs Minister also criticized Trump but also spoke out against his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton. The minister claimed that she prefers the expansion of the State of Israel over the Palestinians. “The Palestinian state is not a bargaining chip for retrieving the Jewish vote in the United States,” he said.
