A new study by the Israeli startup company Optimove that examined the gambling data from over 1 million online venues in Europe found that although the majority of those who place bets, particularly in sports, are men, women have a higher success rate, 16% higher than the men, on all websites that were examined.

The analysis of the data revealed that women in general take 20% less risk while gambling, leading to more levelheaded bets and higher success rates. The study found that women gamble differently than men, with the majority of women placing smaller but more frequent deposits, while men tended to bet higher and lose more.

The number of people who partake in online gambling such as on various casinos, sports betting, lotteries and bingo websites has risen exponentially in the past few years and the trend does not seem to be disappearing anytime soon. Women now constitute 28% of all registered online gamblers in an industry dominated by men, but the numbers are growing.

The industry, which grosses billions of dollars annually, is now gearing itself to wider audiences and reaching a greater number of people, which has led governments worldwide to start gearing up to regulate the growing trend.
