US President Donald Trump wished Israel a happy Independence Day via Twitter on Wednesday while highlighting the close relationship between Washington and Jerusalem.

“Best wishes to Prime Minister @Netanyahu and all of the people of Israel on the 70th Anniversary of your Great Independence,” he tweeted. “We have no better friends anywhere. Looking forward to moving our Embassy to Jerusalem next month!”

Netanyahu retweeted Trump’s message and replied by thanking the American leader. “Thank you, President Trump! We too have no better friend than America. We are greatly looking forward to your moving the embassy to Jerusalem, Israel's eternal capital,” he wrote.

Israel’s 70th Independence Day celebrations began on Wednesday evening after a full day of remembrance honoring terror victims and those who lost their lives while defending the country. The celebrations continue today as millions of Israelis enjoy outdoor activities, family events and barbecues.

In December, Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and vowed to move the American embassy to the city. His decisions were widely condemned throughout the world because they were seen as an attempt to change the status of the holy city, which is one of the main issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The opening of the Jerusalem embassy is slated for May.
