Georgia: Israelis injured in serious car accident
UNESCO claims there is no proof of Jewish connection to Wailing WallJordan and the Palestinian Authority submitted an anti-Israel proposal that UNESCO approved. The decision doubts the connection between the Jewish people and the Western Wall. 24 countries voted in favor of the proposal, six voted against it and the European countries abstained.
Today (Thursday), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Executive Committee in Paris passed an anti-Zionist proposal submitted by Jordan and the Palestinian Authority (PA).
The proposal claimed that there is no proof that the Jewish people have a connection to Jerusalem’s Western Wall even though it is Judaism’s holiest site. During today’s vote, the European countries abstained. In April during the preliminary voting concerning the matter, Sweden, France, Slovenia, India, Argentina and Togo voted in favor, yet abstained today. Among the countries that supported the decision were Morocco, Algeria, Sudan and Egypt. It was also noted during today’s vote that Jerusalem is important to the three major monotheistic religions.
“Today, UNESCO has turned itself into an organization that is a disgrace to the UN,” Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said in criticism of the decision. “If the Jews do not have a connection to the Western Wall, then UNESCO does not have a connection to education, science and culture.”
