Today (Thursday), US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro made clear that the US will veto any decision made against Israel within the UN Security Council. “This has been a long-standing policy and I do not see a reason to change it,” he explained.

This past September, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Barack Obama met just outside the UN General Assembly, where Obama expressed his concern regarding the settlement enterprise. Obama also stated that he hopes that the US can be effective partners with Israel in order to find a solution for peace.

“Surely, Israelis and Palestinians will be better off if Palestinians reject incitement and recognize the legitimacy of Israel, but Israel recognizes that it cannot permanently occupy and settle Palestinian land,” Obama said during his speech in front of the UN General Assembly in September.
