An Israeli delegation of firefighters successfully completed an aid mission in Macedonia on Friday. The 22-member team carried out about 40 hours of work using two Israeli firefighting aircraft. For the past two weeks, Macedonia has been battling several massive wildfires.

Immediately after receiving the request from the Balkan state, the Israeli Public Security Ministry approved the delegation’s mission. The delegation included the two firefighting aircraft and two Israeli Air Force planes that flew the members and their equipment.

Under the blistering sun and temperatures that reached 40 degrees C (104 degrees F), the Israeli firefighters carried out 42 flights, using about 120,000 liters of fire retardant. The firefighters said that most of the fires were near populated areas and unreachable by foot.

The Macedonian firefighters and forest rangers thanked the Israeli firefighters for their help. This is the second time in the past month that an Israeli delegation has flown to help a foreign country deal with massive fires. About two weeks ago, a similar delegation headed to Montenegro to help the local authorities deal with a wave of fires that hit the country.
