French police treating murder of Holocaust survivor as anti-Semitic crimeThe murder of an 85-year-old Jewish Holocaust survivor in Paris is being treated as an anti-Semitic crime, French reports said on Tuesday. Meanwhile, authorities have arrested two suspects for the murder. One of them, a 29-year-old man, reportedly knew the victim since his infancy.
French authorities on Monday arrested two suspects for the murder of Mireille Knoll, the 85-year-old Holocaust survivor who was found dead in her Paris apartment on Friday after being repeatedly stabbed and then set on fire. Reports in France said authorities are treating the crime as an anti-Semitic incident.
Knoll lived alone in Paris’ 11 arrondissement after her husband, also a holocaust survivor, died in the early 2000’s. As a child, she was one of the few who escaped the notorious round-up of thousands of French Jews in 1942, who were sent to their deaths in Nazi death camps by local authorities.
On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron called the crime “horrendous” and vowed to continue his combat against anti-Semitism in the country with “absolute determination.” Earlier this month while addressing a local Jewish organization, Maron called anti-Semitism the “shame” of France.
