April sees highest number of tourists arriving in one month since the establishment of the State of Israel

In April 2017, 349,000 tourists entered Israel, thus representing the highest number of tourists arriving in one month since May 1948. "This is a significant and exciting milestone," said Tourism Minister Yariv Levin.

The Ministry of Tourism published today (Tuesday) encouraging data regarding incoming tourism to Israel. According to the report, 349,000 tourists entered Israel in April 2017. This not only marks an increase of 38% compared to last April but also the highest number of tourists arriving in one month since the establishment of the State of Israel.

In January-April of 2017, 1.09 million tourists entered Israel, an increase of 28% compared to the same period last year. There was also an increase compared to the first trimester of 2014 before Operation Protective Edge, which until now had been a peak in tourism to Israel.

"When there is a clear policy, we see results," said Tourism Minister Yariv Levin. "Every month, we see exceptional data that illustrates the progress we are making in the tourism industry and its tremendous contribution to the Israeli economy and to employment in Israel," he said. "This significant and exciting milestone is part of a positive trend that has been going on for more than six months and I hope that we will continue to reap the rewards of this investment."
