10-year-old Ilai and his father Dr. Omri Nir will be laid to rest today (Monday). The two fell off a cliff in southern Israel over the weekend. The young boy and his father will be buried next to each other in Kfar Vitkin at 3:00 PM. Israel’s National Transplant Center has started the procedure of transferring Ilai’s organs after the family agreed to donate them. Ilai’s heart will be transplanted into an 8-year-old boy. His liver will be donated to a 4-year-old girl. A 55-year-old woman will receive his lungs.

The National Transplant Center added that Ilai’s kidneys will also be donated. Yesterday, JOL reported that the Nir family decided to donate the young boy’s organs after he was pronounced dead by doctors at Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center. Ilai’s organ donations will most likely save the recipients’ lives. Schneider Children’s Medical Center stated that the boy who will receive Ilai’s heart is an 8-year-old from central Israel who suffers from a heart disease and needed an immediate heart transplant in order to survive.

“The family’s consent to save lives from within the deep pain and loss requires inner strength and first-grade heroism,” stated the National Transplant Center yesterday. “To lose half a family, a husband and a son, and to think about saving lives, this is tremendous heroism.”
