100 blood and plasma units were flown this morning (Thursday) to Peru in a special Magen David Adom operation in order to save the life of Zohar Katz. The young Israeli tourist has been hospitalized for several days at a Lima hospital in critical condition. The shipment of blood and plasma units left Israel after receiving the green light from the Lima hospital and with the help of the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Magen David Adom paramedic Yonat Daskal flew with the special shipment. In Peru, she will meet up with a senior level Magen David Adom hematologist who arrived last night in the Peruvian capital city and the hospital staff. Magen David Adom hopes that the plasma units will help stabilize Katz’s condition and within the next few days, she will be able to fly back to Israel in order to continue her treatment in the country.
When Magen David Adom heard about Katz’s situation, officials from the organization contacted the Israeli tourist’s relatives, who put them in contact with the doctors at the Lima hospital in order to receive the necessary permits.
