Two people were killed and four were wounded after an armed man opened fire at a library in Clovis, New Mexico, on Monday. “It happened so fast,” witness Vanessa Aguirre told the Eastern New Mexico News.
The suspect is in custody but his motive for the killing spree is still unclear. Police and medical teams flocked to the scene after receiving the initial report. “We still don’t know all the details,” City Commissioner Juan Garza told the Associated Press. Garza asked that the public “keep on praying for the families affected by this tragedy.”
Clovis is located about 10 miles from the Texas border. “New Mexico’s thoughts and prayers tonight are with the victims, their families and the first responders on the ground,” Attorney General Hector Balderas said in a statement.
