The president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez, and the prime minister of Romania, Viorica Dancila, has announced that their respective countries will move their embassies to Jerusalem.

Honduras becomes the second Central American country to move its embassy to Jerusalem, after Guatemala. During his speech, Hernandez said, “Honduras will immediately open its official diplomatic mission, which will include the embassy, in Israel’s capital, Jerusalem.

In the past, the Honduran government had discussed the possibility of moving its embassy to Jerusalem in exchange for Israel opening an embassy in Honduras, where it currently has only one diplomatic mission at the consular level.

For its part, Romania will become the first country in Europe to move its embassy to Jerusalem. “I, as prime minister of Romania, and the government I lead, will move our embassy to Jerusalem, the capital of Israel,” said the Romanian head of state. She also stressed that “Romania will remain the same faithful friend and the strongest European voice in support of the Jewish people and the State of Israel.

The announcements were made during the conference of the American pro-Israeli organization AIPAC.
