IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz said Tuesday that the Syrian regime would suffer the consequences of any more attacks on Israel, responding to the exchange of fire between Israel and Syria on the border overnight Monday. The government of President Bashar Assad assumed responsibility for the attack. “We will not allow the area of the Golan Heights to turn into an easy target for Syrian attacks,” Gantz said. Syrian forces fired at Israeli forces on Monday night, the third such incident this week.

The four victims who were shot to death on Monday in a bank in Be’ersheba were laid to rest. One day after the massacre at the Bank Hapoalim bank branch that left four people dead, it was revealed that a Bedouin man wounded in the incident, who covered another wounded man with his own body to protect him, was taken to the hospital in handcuffs for fear that the massacre was a possible terror attack. The Jewish casualties were not handcuffed. The wounded man remains in intensive care. Four other people were lightly wounded in the shooting and have since been released from the hospital.
