A four-year-old boy is dead after being forgotten in a car in the southern Israeli city of Netivot, apparently by one of his parents.

Paramedics took the boy to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba while trying to resuscitate him, but he did not manage to survive. Neighbors claimed that calling rescue forces took a long time due to cellular reception problems.

“I heard screams, I went out and I saw the father screaming,” said one of the neighbors. “I tried to call (an ambulance) but I couldn’t because there was no network. It’s very frustrating. We’ve had no network for about a month and a half and now it has caused a terrible tragedy.”

According to statistics, there were 647 cases between 2008 and 2018 in which children were either left or locked in a car. 27 of these cases resulted in the child’s death.
